Maruti Suzuki Milestones

The revolution in the Auto Industry took place in the year 1981 when Maruti Suzuki India was established as a fully owned government organization. Maruti Suzuki was the first company to reach a total production of more than one million vehicles in March 1994.

Today Maruti Suzuki is all set to create another significant milestone in its history This is in tune with the government's mission to make India the hub of small car industry.

In February 2007, Maruti Suzuki inaugurated its two manufacturing facilities in Manesar - Maruti Suzuki's fourth car assembly plant and Maruti Suzuki's diesel engine plant.

With an investment of Rs. 2500 crores, the fourth car assembly plant is rated among the best Suzuki plants worldwide. The plant is future ready and is designed to produce world class vehicles.

It has started with a capacity of 100,000 cars per year, which would be scaled up to 300,000 cars by 2010.Maruti Suzuki also expects to begin export of about 200,000 cars per year and the new Manasar assembly plant will contribute majorly to this number.

Maruti Suzuki's first diesel plant is designed to produce state of the art diesel engines and transmission systems for the cars. This plant would entail investment of Rs. 2500 crores. Besides serving the Indian market, it is an export base for Suzuki's operations worldwide. This plant has a capacity of 100, 000 engines per year to be expanded to 300,000 by 2010.This plant also marked the entry of Maruti Suzuki in the diesel segment.

Spread over a vast area of 600 acres, the new manufacturing facilities at Manesar is a technology delight.

With a promise to provide the best to its customers Maruti is all set to roll out more world class vehicles in the near future. The cars will be in tune with company's vision to provide economical, fuel efficient cars to its customers at a reasonable cost. Maruti Suzuki A-star is the recent example.

In October 2008, Maruti Suzuki unveiled next generation KB Engine plant at Gurgaon, An environment friendly engine is? a step towards selling a million units by 2010.

This takes the engine technology to the next level in India and keeps the company ahead of the emission norms in the country.

Today, it has changed the profile of India market and customers, from a follower to a leader - instead of models reaching India after launch abroad, India is a platform for global model lauches, Swift, SX4 are examples.

Maruti Suzuki 20 years ago

New corporate practices came as a breath of fresh air for corporate India........common uniform and common canteen for the first time. A contrast to the stifling hierarchy of government companies and lala units.

-Open offices. It was such a revolutionary step at that time.

- Hundreds of employees, including villagers from Haryana who were working on the shop floor, were sent to Japan for first hand training. (Transfer of technology through people).

-Maruti Suzuki was the top job for engineers from premier institutes. There was an air of optimism, hope. A Marutian felt he was creating something new, pathbreaking, pioneering work. A very very special feeling. Maruti represented the dreams and aspirations of a young nation.

Why isn't Maruti Suzuki coming out with a sleeker eight-seater mini van, slightly bigger than the Omni, based on the Versa platform perhaps with a diesel variant? They are now producing many small cars on a single plartform, which are very similar to each other. Even the Wagon-R needs a sleeker successor to its present 'Bread box' appearence. | Reply
