The expansion of its Tapukara plant is expected help set base for the Honda New Small car, scheduled for launch sometime next year
Leading manufacturer of premium cars in India, Honda Siel, has announced an investment of Rs. 250 crore for further expansion of its Tapukara Plant in Rajasthan. The power train facility, which is currently under construction, will be completed by the end of 2010, and will be utilized to manufacture engine & transmission components.
Many of these components, like cylinder heads and cylinder blocks were till now being imported from Indonesia and Thailand. The Tapukara plant currently produces crankshaft and connecting rods for its Greater Noida plant.
Honda Siel Cars India, President and CEO, Takashi Nagai is confident that this steady move to further expand its Rajasthan plant will help HSCI to reap the benefits of low-cost manufacturing available in India. Talking specifically about India, as a growing market for automobiles, he said "HSCI's investments at the Tapukara plant is a step towards our aim to make India the future manufacturing base for critical components for our global operations and strengthen our commitment towards the Indian automobile industry".
Honda Siel Cars India, whose current product offering in India includes the highly decorated Honda Jazz, the Honda City, Honda Civic and Honda Accord can look forward to the new and enhanced Power Train facility assisting the company in controlling costs in future, and creating increasing indigenization levels, especially for the Honda New Small Car taking the localization to more than 80 per cent.
