Honda Launches New City Variant

Vikram Gour 15 Sep 2009

Blue-Honda-city-Main

It's raining variants already and it isn't even festival season yet! However I guess the excitement has hit a rather bullish car industry early and that is why the customer is witnessing this influx of schemes and models. The latest on the bandwagon of 'new variants' is the rather popular Honda City.

Honda Siel Cars India has introduced the City in a new avatar, namely the 1.5V package. Incidentally this new variant is part of the Great Honda Contest, where a lucky person stands to win a Honda car upon purchasing one-the ultimate happy hour offer!

As far as the model is concerned, the 1.5V is available in both manual and automatic transmission, it rides on neat 5 spoke alloys and up front you will find the inclusion of fog lamps. Other surprises include chrome door handles (oh how we Indians love our chrome!!) and a stylish exhaust pipe tip cover. On the inside, you will find a complete new look for the grey has been put aside and Honda has draped the car in beige! It does liven up the interiors and the silver colored fan knob and painted inner door handles go a long way in bringing a slightly more up market feel to the car. The engine and performance of the car remain the same.

Though the 1.5V will bring in the top of the line specs, Honda Siel has taken the liberty to extend the beige interior color scheme onto the existing S range on the Honda City as well. Apart from all this, the Honda City, across all variants, will be available in a special festival colour- Deep Sapphire Blue, which will only be available during the festive season.

Indeed SX4 is the great Car and I feel delighted to be the owner of such a prestigious and loaded Car. Its a real giant on road.Be it looks, style, comfort or performance, it outscores any other car in the same cost segment.. | Reply

I agree with AVIK that honda has no low end torque and that the performance is worth crapsBUT....BUT......we seem to be mixing way to many items in one statement.Any car is distinguished by couple of important characteristics1) performance 2) Fuel Efficiency 3) Exterior and interior design 4) COSTAnd it means very different to different people. For one person - a good car means something that has great fuel average . Power and torque has no meaning to themand for some a great car is something that can do 0 to 100 in 5 seconds and has a great low end torque.yet for some - its a good car if it looks stunning and the seats are plush.Honda definitely is way ahead when it comes to styling and looks. It even has good average. But at a cost of performance and power.and something that makes any car worthwhile is COST.If the same car was sold for few lakhs less- the reviews would have been very different.Honda does have few very strong points and few very weak points.depends which point matters to you.SAme applies to SX4 i believeWith the strongest point being - value for money- thats something hard to beat in INDIA. | Reply

Mr.Amol...Do you even know what s the difference between a DRIVER'S car and a TOY car?? That's the difference between SX4 and the CITY. If you are talking about the QUALITY, after driving th City, I understand "QUALITY" as "FIT AND FINISH" and not Quality of materials. The doors of the city close as if they are made from cardboard and the steering has no feel to it. That means you never feels secure in that car, no matter how safe the car is. Honda cars are always over-priced. If the new City was that good, why did they launch the new IMPROVED versions. Simply, because they were taking whooping Rs.9 lakhs for a mid-sized car, not even offering Alloy wheels and a CD player. No doubt there sales declined with the launch of new City. They got the punishment and now they have come out of there dreams to live in the Indian automotive reality. SX4 may be a good driver's car but it is not a very good family car with not a very good rear seat comfort but that does'nt mean Honda City is a good car. When you were commenting about Corolla, I think you got too emotional. Corolla is a league ahead at Rs10 lakhs and worth the extra cash at any given day. And, for Linea, it was better that you commented on the FIAT's service rather than the car, please sit and drive that car, you'll know what exactly QUALITY means. | Reply

i hope you guys understand that Honda can be costly.... but every brand has some values and people dont mind to aspire spending that extra to get those values. I am confident that City is the Mother/Father of Sedans in its segment | Reply

To Avik,Sarwan,Sidh-i think u all guys have a thing in common.....u dont own a HONDA....when u'll own one u knw d difference...no maitenance n additional costs watsoever...n gr8 service fyi.....As for the performance n mileage honda easily beats Suzuki.......d only factor is price.......if u value quality then definitely HONDA not SUZUKI.....even the overpriced Jazz is a quality product....while suzuki has a habit of pampering its customers wid cheap quality products.........Avik,also compare the reactions of americans for a suzuki.....it doesnt even sell there much neways.........n honda is the 2nd best selling japanese maker after toyota in US and globally......even an indian who has driven a car other than suzuki can tell that they r more like a tin box compared to honda.... .......i drove both uf them .......PS:I think this new honda is a tad overpriced though..:) | Reply

To PRADEEP.Most evidently,Mr.Pradeep, you are not a FAN OF DRIVING and like to drive like one OLD GRANNY and take life easy and stick to slow traffic just like the others.I concluded this FACT when you think that the Honda City is "Good CAR"... You very clearly have NO IDEA whatsoever of what a good car is ...The City's performance is horrendous and the engine has absolutely NO LOW END TORQUE and thus the pulling power in low revs frustratingly terrible.Secondly, if you too are one of the people who think "HONDA" is the "BEST CAR COMPANY" .. get a reality check and ask any american or european of what they think of the brand "HONDA" .. to them HONDA is just some stupid car copany that makes LIGHT AND CHEAP BOXES OF TIN that carries you from place A to B .Biggest negative point is the pRICE TAG and the trribly plasticy interiorith NO CLIMATE CONTROL on offer ...The SX4 is a better car anyday ! | Reply

The alloys were much needed in the so called bench mark in the segment. Now the automatic truely feels like a great buy...if you are willing to pay for these comforts. | Reply

Sarwan - Have you lost it old guy?? Plz dont compare Big Butt SX4 to the New Honda City... Ive been owning City for da past 3 yrs, and I tell you - Itz one of the best car'z available in the market.. Nd Ive even driven SX4 from Mum-Pune ( My Frndz ) no doubt da car'z good - but you really cant compare it to City.. The interiors as well, SX4 has nothing great to offer in interiors to unlike the Honda'z... You be happy with your Bulky SX4, dnt stop ppl buying the new gorgeous lady frm Honda... Or are you a Maruti SX4 salez agent...?? ;) | Reply

NOTHING NEW peole must wait for the LINEA 1.6 MULTIJET coming next month. It will certainly kill this overpriced and of course overrated City for sure. | Reply

I think HSCI has corrected some glaring irritants with the 2008 City with the introduction of Honda City 1.5V. That was a nimble move. Better interiors and alloy wheels are most notable advances. However the value for money ratio of City still has ample area for improvement. The festival offer is not helping either because it is purely luck based, there are no assured discounts/accessories. | Reply

Comparing Honda city and SX4 is like comparing Parrot and Crow. Just take a test drive of SX4 you will feel the same feeling as if you are driving esteem. | Reply

Hey Anmol I think Sarwan is write in his approach. Honda has super refined engines but maruti has Suzuki tech and that is not far behind. See you have to choose between value for money and brand loyality. Honda has over priced its Jazz so much so that it has lost steam already. I am afraid for Honda City because of price. | Reply

If Honda is all that hot, how come the mags rate the Punto and the i10 ahead of the Jazz? | Reply

HONDA HAS THE HABIT OF INCREASING THE PRICE EVERY NOW AND THEN.. THIS IS ONE SUCH TACTIC…..THINK WISE AND GO FOR SX4.. MARUTI SX4 IS THE PERFECT SEDAN AND IT OFFER ENORMOUS VALUE FRO YOUR MONEY. COMPARED TO SX4, HONDA CITY IS MUCH EXPENSIVE .I DRIVE SX4 AND LOVES IT. | Reply
