| After selling more than half a million Jazz' across Europe and just on the verge of being launched in India, the big little Honda is now also one of the safest. The Jazz is already been making waves before its much awaited Indian launch and now has added another feather in its cap by achieving top points for the Euro NCAP rating. Euro NCAP's new rating scheme focuses on the vehicle's overall safety performance which gives consumers an easy to understand single score. The new system considers passenger protection during impact to the front, side and rear of the car, and pole (if the car impacts with a tree or other fixed narrow object). Child protection, pedestrian protection and the availability of driver safety aids are also considered. | Helping the Jazz achieve these ratings are features like the VSA (now also available in the Accord V6) which helps the driver to maintain control during cornering, acceleration and sudden maneuvers by applying braking to the right or left wheels as necessary and managing the engine torque systems as required. To protect the occupants, the Jazz shell is a protective cocoon constructed of 42 per cent high tensile steel that disperses energy produced from a crash, boosting protection for its passengers by 20 per cent. To protect pedestrians in case of an impact the Jazz consists of windscreen wiper pivots designed to break away on impact, energy absorbing front wing mounts and bonnet hinges, as well as a clear area beneath the bonnet to allow it to crumple and absorb impact. In the airbag department the Jazz has dual front, side and full-length side curtain airbags as standard fitment across all models. The same should be available in the India spec model as well with the Hyundai i20 already upping the game with 6 airbags. Honda has the braking department covered as well, providing Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA). Considering the Jazz is going to be priced in the premium Rs. 7 lakh bracket expect all the above features to be available atleast as an option once the car arrives on Indian shores. |
