| Honda Motor Co. Ltd. announced that the Insight has managed to rank as best selling car amongst new car registrations in Japan for the month of April 2009. The Honda Insight managed to clock a total sales of 10,481 units for the month and what is even more remarkable is the fact that this is the first time ever that a hybrid vehicle has featured on a best sellers list, let alone rank as number one for the month. The Honda Insight debuted in 1999 in North America and incidentally it was the first hybrid mass production car to be sold in North America. While the Toyota Prius held the distinct title of being the world's first mass production hybrid car, the Insight went on to make a presence in the North American market. The first generation Insight was produced from 200 to 2006 as a three door hatchback and total global sales amounted only to about 18,000 units. The second generation Insight marked the comeback of the brand. The Insight had grown into a proper 5 door hatchback with revised looks that were more contemporary styled as compared to the earlier model. The new Insight went on sale in Japan in February 2009 and made its North American market debut on March 24 2009. Being more practical and offering a stellar mileage and being more eco friendly at a time of an oil crisis have seen the Insight receive a better welcome this time around. Packed with enhanced technology and better systems than its predecessor, the Insight was set to deliver this time around, and judging by the numbers it has clocked in Japan already, the new model has success written all over it.
