| Each one of the 15 days of the Himalayan Odyssey was really something to remember. I look at those few moments that stood out among the rest and will remain with me forever. So finally, the Himalayan Odyssey 09 has drawn to a conclusion. It was without a doubt the most amazing two weeks of my life in many more ways than I really care to explain. Now I'm not going to bore you with a standard travelogue or a step-by-step description of the trip here - for that, you can refer to the route guide. What I am going to share are a few of my personal high points of this ride - times which just took my breath away (sometimes literally) and I was left in awe of the spectacle that is The Himalayas. First glimpse of the Himalayas My first real high point of this trip was just about two days into the ride. After having spent a boring day riding in straight lines from Delhi to Chandigarh and then a really exciting one riding through the twisties from Chandigarh to Manali, I was really charged up and looking forward to really entering the Himalayas. At Manali itself, glimpses of the snow covered peaks in the background were giving some clue as to the spectacular landscapes that awaited us, and when we began the journey towards Rohtang pass the next day, the glimpses turned into full-blown vistas. Still, most of us couldn't help feel a little low riding through the seemingly endless snow and stream of tourist vehicles that enveloped us as we crossed Rohtang. But as we descended and passed through Gramphoo, the snow (and the tourists) had stopped and for the first time, we could clearly see where we were - amidst the majestic Himalayas - a sight overwhelming enough to move the strongest of us to tears. |
