Feast your eyes on the new BMW M3

Priyadarshan Bawikar 04 Dec 2009

The most hardcore M3 yet!

If you thought that the BMW M3 was fast, then prepare for a shock as the Bavarian automaker has just gone and one-upped itself. Look past the friendly orange paintjob and you'll see the most hardcore road-legal M3 to date - the GTS. Scheduled to go on sale in Germany in May 2010, the GTS will carry a sticker price of 115,000 Euros (almost Rs. 80 lakh). And just what do you get for the extra premium over the standard M3 coupe? For one thing, the 4.0-litre V8 engine has been enlarged to 4.4-litres and comes mated to BMW's new 7-speed double-clutch gearbox. The official specs haven't been released as of yet, but peak power output for this new car is rumored to be in the region of about 450 horsepower. The M3 GTS comes sans luxuries like an air conditioner, satellite navigation or even a radio for that matter. What you do get is a roll cage, six-point harnesses, a fire extinguisher and a kerb weight of just 1,490kg - that's 190kg less than the standard M3. But the best part - nine-time MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi just test drove one... and he loved it!

this is one of the favorite of its class in the car industry, its no surprise that this M3 is loaded with hi-tech features and specs like five-way adjustable front shock absorber, eight cylinder engine, enhanced wheel camber etc.. | Reply

It’s not about how big the engine is or how much bhp it produces. It’s about how it delivers that performance and when it comes to handling and driving experience, there is no match to this M3. There is a reason why they call it the 'Ultimate Driving Machine'. (Note: E92 M3 with DKG transmission does 0-100kph in 4.6s, much faster than VXR8 Bathrust S with 130 more bhp!!) | Reply

BMW has no plans as of yet to bring this beast to US. Just going by conversion rates it costs around USD 172000, about $100000 more than a regular M3 coupe. so for $100000 you get 30 more horses and minus 190kg, a/c, rear seats, stereo, nav etc. Though I am in complete awe of the current M3 but I am not sure if this one is worth it. I can have 2 regular M3's for this price and still save some money. | Reply

If i had that sort of money, i'll settle for the M5, so that my family can enjoy the trip too, incomfort. | Reply

this is just a hardcore version of the M3. I hope they haven't fiddled with the ride, because the ride quality in the M3 is really good, considering its a BMW.Cant be matched with a Z4. The latter is a roadster, while this is coupe. Z4 doesnt come with a V8. | Reply
