| World Car of the Year 2008-2009 - 'Mazda 2' Finally the biggest momma of them all. The World Car of the Year Award or WCOTY comes across as an automobile award selected by a jury of 48 international automotive journalists from 22 countries. The selected cars must be sold in at least five countries on at least two continents prior to January 1 of the year of the award. Compared to the other awards WCOTY is a relatively new one and was formed in 2005. For 2008-2009, Mazda's little Mazda 2 or Demio walked away with the prestigious WCOTY award. It was followed closely by the Ford Mondeo and the Mercedes-Benz C-class. The Mazda2 was nominated by 47 World Car jurors from 24 countries and was picked because of its appealing looks and high levels of standard equipment for the price. |
