The new BMW X1, which was first showcased at last year's Paris Motor Show is now set for an Indian innings. The X1 has been officially unveiled at this year's Expo in Delhi and CKD production is expected to commence by the end of 2010 at the company's Chennai facility.
Speaking bout the X1, Peter Kronschnabl, President, BMW India said, "The CKD Production of the BMW X1 is a key milestone in BMW Group's India strategy. The BMW X1 opens up a new luxury segment in the compact Sports Activity / Sports Utility Vehicle class, demonstrating once again the company's fine sense for pioneering automotive trends. The BMW X1 is a modern vehicle that represents new interpretation of sheer driving pleasure and, like no other vehicle, a spontaneous lifestyle. It convincingly perpetuates the success story of BMW in India."
The BMW X1 follows in the X family line which is dominated by the X5 SUV and X6 Cross Over. The X3 Soft Roader has witnessed a decent fan following in India and the X1 has the looks and stance of being a complete winner, for not only is it expected to be more affordable than the other models, it is a vehicle that claims to be compact and versatile, which incidentally is the mantra that most customers seek.
