| Bajaj Auto has always been the master of the price game in the country and it has smartly placed all its products in a very competitive price bracket drawing utmost benefits of their understanding of the Indian psyche. Latest blow from the Akurdi-based bike-maker comes in the form of the all-new 2009 Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTSi. Bajaj Auto introduced the Fuel Injected model of the Pulsar 220 in May 2007, to showcase the company's might and took the performance game one notch higher as the Japs played catch up. However, none of its rivals could match the competitive pricing of the Pulsars and the consistent fresh upgrades given to the line-up each year. The new Pulsar 220 is a step taken backwards to go two steps further ahead of its competition. While everyone keeps harping about technology and its advantage, Bajaj Auto decided to make most of the available technology and exploit its full potential instead of wasting those precious R&D work hours on reinventing the wheel. The fuel injection was trashed and replaced with a UCAL UCD32 carburetor - biggest till date on any Indian bike! The bigger changes though have been made to the head and the cam-shaft to not only make the bike go faster but also for it to be run smoother. Lack of fuel injection means no need for an expensive ECU unit, which in turn means lesser technology and hence result a cheaper yet better product. The 10,000 rupees deficit over the Fuel Injected version puts the new 220 DTSi directly in the premium 150cc and the 180cc motorcycle segment - leaving aside the fact that it is the biggest Pulsar and also the fastest production bike in India. With such extraordinary credentials and impressive performance coupled with its incredible pricing, the new Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTSi once again brings power within the reach several cash-strapped bike enthusiasts in our country.
