We've spoken enough about the Nano's design and capabilities, but it is supposed to be a city car and that is where it outperforms almost everything else on the road.

I was actually dissappointed when they asked me to make the balance payment for Tata Nano, when actually the price quoted for first one Lah allottees was only Rs 1 Lakh at exshow room price. This clearly indicates that the price at which we had made the booking i.e. Rs 1,20,000 includes the exshow room price. When I approached the senior person, he mentioned that they had not announced such a rate, and the media and newspapers had hyped it. Even if I have to pay the balance amount, I wouldn't know whether I will get the value of my money. | Reply

Considering the amount of hype there was surrounding the Indigo, the car was a let down. In my company we had an Indigo as well as Marina (both diesel). The vehicle performs well for 2 years but after that there are major problems with suspension, engine, instrument console etc. We decided to sell off both vehicles as the cost of repair quoted by the service centre was just too high. In my company we also have an Hyundai Accent which has been giving trouble free performance for last 8 years. So Tata vehicles do not compare to Korean vehicles. The true quality of the Nano can be judged only after 2 years of on-road performance. | Reply

Development of nation must continue and persons like Ratan Tata are surely going to bring a boom; however for opposing Nano in West Bengal I support the views of Mamta Banerjee merely for the reason that highly fertile land was proposed for acquisition to produce Nanos. Here we must realise that food is essentially needed for our survival and in our country, where vegetarian population is quite large, agricultural land should not be allowed to deplete for industrialisation which is already depleting due to urbanization / residential or small business/commercial plots. If thousands of acre fertile land is used for such industries to produce means of comfort | Reply

Dear Ratanji, The way you brought Nano for a common man, pls think of education, housing and health also. True Education, Housing and Medical facility are not reachable by a common man in this country. Even though we have the resources in plenty, but no Govt. is coming forward to do any good thing for a common man. Indians are more intellegent than any body in the world, but there is no proper basic education system for the children in India and education have become costilier for a common man. We have plenty of land in the Country but many of them do not have a basic home to live. Our future India will have more elderly people, for them there is no basic medical facility and health care. If you could be able to view on this, future generation will call you 'Mahathma'. | Reply

Congratulations to you, Mr Ratan Tata for building such a fabulous product. Its a great looker, but I am quite apprehensive about its brakes. If you can look after that issus then, you have got a winner in your hands. Also, just tweak the engine ECU to make the engine silent and increase the boot space, if its feasible. However, its hats off to you and your engineers. | Reply
  • MITUL (30 March 2009 15:19)
The Nano is certainly a big leap for the Tata's in the technical context. But, the question is, what will be the effect? My answer is CHAOS on our roads. I am sure the Tatas have no plans of investing in road infrastructure in the country. They will leave it to the government, who will as usual take its own sweet time. Even in the current situation, driving in our busy city roads is a pain. I find it really difficult to drive an park my sedan. Every day when I take my car out I pray that some unwary taxi or auto driver should not put a scratch on my vehicle which costs a bit and the repairs aren't cheap either. More than that you feel heart broken if you car which costs a fortune is bruised by some idot just because he doesn't care much about his vehicle. The same will be with Nano as well. Most of the people who will buy it will feel that they have the opportunity to be a king for the first time in their lives. THey would have never thought in their wilsdest dreams that any of their kith-n-kin will own a car. And they will drive with that in their mind. Further, who cares if you bang around a 1 L rupees tin can? The insurance premiums will also be meagre. In all totality...its nothing but sheer apocylapse!!! The only solution is to keep the sales limited in B and C segment cities. Please...no NANO IN THE METROS. | Reply

Firstly Congratulations to all who have made Nano a reality. I am amazed that people who talk about pollution that could be caused by nano are illiterate as there are only 13 vehicles per 100 thousand people in India compared to almost 900 vehicles per 1000 people in the US. Its a long way before we surpass US. Also most other counties in the world are in the range of 500 vehicles per 1000 people. Also pollution is the key issue because there is no efficient public transport so we should not be blaming Tata for it rather take it up with your local and national government. Also there are many other ways we can reduce pollution in India try and use allternate sources of energy. The biggest pollution comes from the electricity generators. I can go on and on... so stop blaming Tata for pollution that Nano will cause. Rather i see a ray of hope in Indians who could not afford to have a vehicle that will keep their families safer than the 2 wheelers that kill so many of these families every year. I look as Nano as a gift to families that can now be safer on the roads and as far as the driving sense is concerned as per one of the comments no matter what vehicle you drive in India there is very little driving sense so there is no point in fingerpointing we all have to learn to share the roads we have in the best possible way. If anyone is still unhappy about the roads and infrastucture then complain to the government. Anyway there is an oppertunity to vote next month to the right candidate that will take the country towards the future. We live in a democracy use your rights...Tata is not responsible for the problems in our country. He is trying to make it better and its our responsibility to do our bit as well.... | Reply

OUR POLITICIANS SHOULD TAKE A LESSON FROM THIS THAT MERELY DELIVERING A SPEECH AND MAKING FALSE PROMISES EVERY TIME TO "AAM JANTA" HAS WORTH FOR NOTHING. SHAME ON POLITICIANS, ALSO FOR CREATING OBSTACLES IN YOUR WAY... PLEASE ACCEPT MY HEARTIEST CONGRATULATIONS ON THIS GOLDEN MOMENT OF INDIAN HISTORY. SIR, THANKS A LOT TO YOU AND YOUR TEAM FOR MAKING OUR NAME.I AM WORDLESS TO EXPRESS MY SINCERE THANKS FOR TAKING CARE OF MIDDLE CLASS FAMILY.I REALLY SALUTE YOU.IT IS NOT LESS THAN A NATION SERVICE.I HOPE I MAY GET OPPERTUNITY TO SEE YOU IN FUTURE. the need of the time is not the cheapest or expensive cars the need of the time is technological advanced built road with proper lanes and lighting and offcourse absolutely strict meaures to issue driving license. Iam shocked see how illitrate people in india are about growing number of accident still they have thier eyes closed?? This really worries me I rarely heard anyone surviving an accident in India and on the top of it these cheap cars. We should note that these will be purchased by low middle class whose traffic sense is questionable I am just praying these cars do not end up in junk yard in piles after accident not that the cars are bad its just the driving law and knowledge of the driver worries me. | Reply

Nano is a fabulous car as compared to its price. If i get a chance I would like to make a movie on Mr Ratan Tata, that can inspire generations to come. As such it holds great potential for India's economy. On the infrastructure side it will be blessing in disguise as the government will be forced to do capital expenditure and again the money will flow into the system. I think it is a boon for the country. I am surely going to buy a nano even it is means paying a premium over the price as i want to be associated with not just a car but a phenomenon called NANO. | Reply

The introduction of the Nano is a welcome trend--but it should be measured in terms that really matter. For example how many auto rickshaws ,motor bikes and scooters does it get rid off.And what is the change in the pollution levels. Finally what does it do in terms of gas prices etc.All in all this can be a huge positive if now the Govt gives incentives to replace outdated scooters etc.Indian Eng. constantly proves itself. Now lets see the real economics of the indians to go to work. | Reply

Nano is an engineering and financial skills marvel. If you want the best choice with a fixed cost there is no one better to do that than Indians. No doubt Indians are capable of doing anything they want to do. The only problem is that they do not recognize that until someone else to tell them that to get started. | Reply

Otherwise in Rs. 3/4 lacs, they will wait for their dream when they become a owner of the car, but Ratan Tata is fulfil their dream & give the new message to the Indian middle class families that I am with you, also you get a proud to be a owner of the car. Really I hate the politics who throw the hurdles & dirty politics in their mind not to finish early the project of Singur in W/B, But after all Ratan Tata complete his promise to given to the Indian middle class families. This "Small" car is physically bigger than an Alto. Can touch 100km/hr (even thouch speed limit in cities is 60km/hr). Is a marvel of indian engineering, especially when India is ending up being a consumer rather than a producer. It is just what the doctor ordered in terms of mileage, especially when world oil stocks is finishing, it makes sense to get the most mileage from what oil we have left. Tata is able to make new jobs in a time of recession. He is helping us save precious money in this time (instead of spending more on any other car we can manage a car in 1lakh). There is a difference between a businessman and a visionary. Tata is the latter. I feel proud to be an indian. The nano is bringing out a feeling on one-ness among all indians as much (or even more than) an olympic medal (Abhinav Bindra you are still a hero). Manufacturers have been forcing us to buy what they can make, rather than what we want. Now we have an option. Thank you Tata for heeding to our needs. | Reply

Tata group made OUR Nation proud in auto engineering sector. At the same time I feel petty about the Indian political hand in the delay of much awaited NANO launch. IF same nano was launched much earlier from Singur plant (West Bengal) in hte mid of year 2008 ..before Economy slow down, Auto industries would have been survived for some more duration. As this is whole and sole in-house product. Most of Indian sub-contact orders would have been in demand. Shame on Indian polities and policies. | Reply

It looks Westerns are more awaiting NANO then even Indian. So, global economic down turn is good for TATA. I believe this is the best solution in this hard time which save money, more mileage, less space for parking, speed control(105km/hr) which save some horrible accident hazard and of course cute NANO specially for women doing job and purchase shopping.Every question has solution and RATAN TATA fit for that. Is Gujarat lucky over WB???? | Reply

Nano might have brought a revolution in field of automobiles in india and world all around but think for a second. This car is useful by no means. It is just going to add more and more problems. global warming, crude oil prices are some issues which are going to get more worse just because of this stupid damn thing. | Reply

I drove this car and it sucks! Enough said!! The hydrogen fueled cars are much more powerful and don't need fuel!!! They will make Nano a thing of the past. I can't believe that people in India are so dumb...they don't get it that this is a money making strategy for Tata. Indians have given Tata a lot over the years and I will be impressed if Tata donated 100,000 Nanos to the Indian police and army!!! | Reply

It will surely Push Tata Motors in the big league provided they maintain big volumes in production both for local and international clients, I figure the annual demand in India itself would be more than a million by the way common man's talk that each one of them would buy the car if the price and quality is maintained. There are others in the fray like Ford,Suzuki, Bajaj Auto and GM ect.trying to produce a small car to grab a piece of the action | Reply

It seems the seed that will blossom into the Nano was sown years and years ago in Kolkata (then, Calcutta), when Mr Tata would use the iconic hand-pulled rickshaws. He would consider a solution to the problem of his own personal safety and of the obviously hard life that the puller must go through. His visits to plant showed him a similar problem - a sort of inherent disregard for the comfort of and to some extent the safety of the workers. This brought him to the conclusion that safety is affected, among other factors, by fatigue. | Reply

So much so it makes me happy and proud to learn that TATA could develop the world’s cheapest car, I am also worried thinking what the future holds for us when this car lands up in every corner of this country. Just imagine how it would add to the already existing traffic congestion problem in major cities, I mean do we have enough roads or infrastructure to handle this increased load. Not to forget increased air pollution and parking problems. Owing the NANO maybe easy; but it is the running and maintenance costs per year that should also be taken into consideration. What our country with such an enormous population needs is effective mass public transport system that is efficient, cheap, comfortable and environment friendly. Ratan Tata travels by air most of the time and may not have ever stepped foot on the Indian roads to feel the pain and agony of the common man. TATA will just sit back and earn more money by dumping these cars all over the country; in the end it the common man who might suffer the most. PLEASE NOTE: This is just my general opinion and I have nothing against anyone. | Reply

Tatas should seriously consider launching the "autorickshaw" version of Nano. This version would not have the four doors. Therefore, Tatas could reduce the price of the "autorickshaw" version and make it affordable to present autorickshaw owners. The present autorickshaws could be phased out. This would reduce noise pollution to a very great extent!! | Reply

how could a car been manufactured with such a low cost in a good condition....... i think this car wikll not be safety for us to drive........ i don't want to risk my life for this small car which is without safety....... if this car is the thee best then wat's up with the most safety cars in the world which is too cost ...... the amount it cost is where there is more safety..... so according to me we can have a bike or an electric car (reva) is better ride than a TATA NANO ...... | Reply

I wish people saw this in a different way. Remember those Premiere Padmini and Ambassador days. Those cars did not have anything but basic cars and back 90's in those days they were above 1 Lac. Can someone explain how much money they made on it. Congress made super rich super super rich and continuous to do so. Automobile industry is out OIL and GAS are in, TATA's some how knows how to stay with right business decisions at least for now without much GOVT favours it seems. Bringing value to the customers has been TATA's objective for quite a long time now.. | Reply

In Tata Nano the Built Quality, Prod. Finish,Spare Parts and Dealer Sale Service net work is set right from the very begining, the car will be a great success and sell like hot cakes. It will surely Push Tata Motors in the big league provided they maintain big volumes in production both for local and international clients, I figure the annual demand in India itself would be more than a million by the way common man's talk that each one of them would buy the car if the price and quality is maintained. There are others in the fray like Ford,Suzuki, Bajaj Auto and GM ect.trying to produce a small car to grab a piece of the action. | Reply

If NANO is meant to be the 'people's car' of India, so be it -- simple and functional, without any frills. No need for A/C or power-steering, just robustly built to offer basic safety to its occupants. The idea is to keep its cost down to make it affordable to the masses. Those who can afford luxury can go for other costlier models. This mini could also serve as the family's second car for running short errands. | Reply
