| 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show Preview
The 2009 edition of the Frankfurt Motor Show kicks off on the 15th of September and will feature a dizzying array of the latest cars from all around the world. We at ZigWheels bring you a preview of the show, highlighting all the important autos bound for Frankfurt
The Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung (IAA), or the Frankfurt Motor Show as it is more commonly known, is considered as the largest auto show in the world. And though the IAA has been in existence since 1897, the city of Frankfurt came to be associated with this automobile extravaganza only in 1951 after it permanently shifted base there. Ever since 1992, the IAA has been split into a biennial event with commercial vehicles being displayed on the odd numbered years and passenger vehicles on even numbered years. The IAA has been the setting for many important automobile launches over the years and has also been the place where the iconic Volkswagen Beetle was first unveiled to the world back in 1939.
This year marks the sixty-third outing of this historic event, running from 15th to 27th September, and promises to be a real who's-who and what's-what of international auto makers and their latest creations. As with all recent auto shows there is a clear shift of the show's limelight to alternate fuel vehicles such as electrics and hybrids. The theme this year is 'A Moving Experience' and it's clear from the selection of Frankfurt-bound vehicles that the focus of the show is on smart, practical everyday cars. While petrolheads might feel this is the end of the world for them, they need not worry as this year's Frankfurt Motor Show will also host the unveiling of some true-blue sports cars such as Ferrari's latest V8 monster, the 458 Italia, along with a string of new Porsche 911 models. |
