Chevrolet Beat

Chevrolet beat

In India by: Mid 2009

Will cost: Rs 3 lakh onwards

The Beat was introduced as a concept at the 2007 New York International Auto Show, and can be seen as an evolution of GM's current international small car, the Spark (known as the Matiz around the world).

Designed in South Korea and powered by a 1.2- litre turbocharged petrol engine, the Beat paves the way for a new generation small cars and might just be the new affordable-small-peppy car for young India. Although the production version will differ a lot from the radical concept seen in pictures, one can expect the baby Chevy to change GM's fortunes in India.

i am a proud owner of Chevrolet Beat and till now ma car clocked 2500Km. I only had issues with sound from rear suspension and that too rectified in 1st service with the replacement of 2 rear bushes. There is a general complaint that the engine doest perform well. You feel like there is a lack of power in 3rd 4th while overtaking...... the matter s tat beats power is in 1st | Reply

Bad experience with Beat, been driving for 35 days now. company claims 18.6klm to a litre, sales showrrrom quotes 14klm per litre in M'bai. My car is giving 7 klm per litre (company says after 5000 klm is when you will get better average, bulshit F uckers), pathetic, bad rare suspension, fear going above speed of 70-80. Manufactuing issues like rubber bush missing in rare suspension due to which constant rattling noise is irritating. service centre doesnt have the parts. Dealer least bothered, i paid for seat covers, mats | Reply

My experience with a beat test drive.Pros:1) Great looks and styling.2) New and innovative instrument cluster.3) Low turning radius.4) Value for money.5) Great A/CCons:1) Humming noise inside cabin at higher speeds.2) Grumpy gear, does not feel as smooth as I10 or Wagon R.3) Engine looses power when A/C is turned on.4) Rear suspensions are a little on the stiffer side.5) The Engine been a 1199cc is not as responsive like a Swift or I10.6) Hydraulic Power steering system is not as good as that of I10 or Swift (Electronic Power Steering).7) Smaller rear windows makes it difficult for the passengers at rear to see the road.8) Very small boot like a A-Star. | Reply

I am planning to buy Chevy Beat, but confused b/w Beat and i10 kappa. What is mileage of beat? Also, I want all the features - should i go for Beat LS or LT? I heard music system of LT is very poor quality? Plz comment.. thanx | Reply
Amit (03 March 2010 23:26) Reply to Deepak
Music System is Good, having company factory, and it makes great look to car interior too !!yeah the problem is only with Speaker, that you can change at later stage of time. One more thing if you are buying LT then you no need to worry for any other accessories. I recommend to buy LT variant of BEAT, I am compare to Kappa its excellent. | Reply

The company should increase the speedometer limit of 180 kms to 200 kms. Maruti Alto has 45 bhp and has 180 speedometer limit and Chevy Beat has 80 bhp so it should increase it. My 2 friends rejected the beat just for this small reason and purchased another car. | Reply

I am using Beat from last one month, mileage it is giving around 12 KMPL in B'lore Traffic Condition, and other thing is that till now first servicing in not happened, so mileage will definitely goes to 15KMPL in City. Highway around 17KMPL with AC. Which is excellent in other 1.2 Ltr Engine. | Reply

Shaan (30 January 2010 13:49) Reply to sontse
Boot space should be a concern if 4 people are travelling with lots of big bags..Beat has a provision of 60:40 rear seat ration..where you can completely fold 1 side of the rear seat to accomodate more luggage. This option is not there in i10. Ritz probably has it too. | Reply

the car on road doesnt luk as gud as luked on paper....its gives smaller luk..than other competitors..i think company paid more attention on price tag to be lesser rather on its size...!!! i think there r other better options to buy leaving this chevy.... | Reply

I must say it is much spacious than other car in this segment, if you compare the length of the car then go for each car's specs. and then u will find that it is not small car.. | Reply

@ abhishek, so far i've found m fully satisfied with d car n if u take my advice d car is jus wonderful concerning its luks, space, design n everythn. N i wud recommend u to buy the LS model cuz it doesnt hav a roofrail which is present in the top end model n gives it a vintage luk, i mean it jus spoils d sporty luk of d car. Also to mention is dat LS model does not hav a preinstalled music system which u can buy n get fitted 4m a retailer for jus 15000 n it'd giv u a bettr music experience...u get d best n u save around 40000. | Reply

I dont think cost of spares should be a concern as it will be in the same leage as I10 or ritz. Chevy does have a low priced car like Spark which is selling well and has low manitenance cost and low spare part cost. | Reply
